Bridgewater Bay

Bridgewater Bay, Fowlers Beach and Montforts Beach lie in the Mornington Peninsula National Park, either side of Koreen Point. St Johns Wood Road runs 2 km straight from Blairgowrie to a car park behind the point. All three beaches are backed by 10 to 20 m high calcarenite bluffs, capped by sand dunes, with some of the dunes reaching down to the beach at Fowlers and Montforts. The beaches are narrow and only active at high tide, being fronted by over 100 m of rocks and reef flats that dominate the surf zone. Waves average 1.5 m on the reefs but are lower at the beaches.

Swimming

  • These are three dangerous beaches, with reef dominated surf at high tide and exposed rocks and reefs at low tide. Montforts has some sheltered tidal pools at low tide, which offer the most suitable spot for bathing.

Surfing

  • A very rocky surf zone, with the reef break at the end of Kirkwood Street, on Fowlers Beach, and Central Avenue on Montforts Beach being the best known spots.

Fishing

  • The best rock gutters are at the western end of Fowlers Beach, otherwise you can fish the reef flats at high tide from the beaches or rocks.

General

  • Three narrow, rock bound beaches; mainly used by rock fishers.
